Energy tenders in Switzerland

Public tenders for electricity, gas, fuels, district heating and supply networks in Switzerland, with current deadlines and full sources. Titles and summaries are translated into English. The official notices are published in German or French, and each detail page links to them on simap.ch.

Overview

Energy tenders span two CPV divisions. Division 09 covers energy carriers: electricity, natural gas, heating oil, diesel and motor fuels, wood chips and pellets, and district heating. Division 65 covers public utilities: electricity, gas, water and heat supply, the operation of networks and plants, and meter reading. Buyers are cantons, towns and municipalities as large consumers, the federal administration, hospitals and universities, transport operators, and energy suppliers and utilities that tender as sector buyers themselves.

Context

Energy supply is mostly awarded through framework agreements over several years, split into lots by energy carrier or site. Only consumers using at least 100 MWh a year per site can buy electricity on the open market, which is why public buyers group their sites. The price is often not fixed: it is offered as a price formula, an index, or a structured purchase in tranches. Utility services cover operations management, energy contracting and the maintenance of heating networks or grids.

What matters

For pure supply contracts, price usually decides, but the price formula, the dates on which prices are fixed and the handling of volume changes determine what the contract finally costs. Buyers often ask for guarantees of origin for renewable energy, information on security of supply and, for fuels, logistics that serve every site with the required minimum quantities. Check load profiles and volume estimates, the balance group and how supplier switches are handled early on; anything unclear belongs in the questions round.
