Environmental services tenders in Switzerland

Public tenders for waste disposal, wastewater, cleaning, winter maintenance and environmental consulting in Switzerland, with current deadlines and full sources. Titles and summaries are translated into English. The official notices are published in German or French, and each detail page links to them on simap.ch.

Overview

Environmental services tenders cover CPV division 90: collection, transport and disposal of municipal and hazardous waste, operation and maintenance of wastewater plants, cleaning of buildings, streets and squares, winter maintenance, pest control, environmental consulting, and the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites. Buyers are municipalities and the joint authorities that run waste and wastewater services, cantonal civil engineering and environment offices, hospitals, schools and universities for routine cleaning, and federal bodies and transport operators. Many contracts run for several years, often with options to extend.

Context

Above the thresholds the work is tendered openly, below them by invitation. Lots are common: by area or collection district, by waste stream such as household waste, green waste or paper and cardboard, or by building for cleaning contracts. Bidders fill in a price sheet with unit prices per tonne, per emptying, per hour or per square metre, multiplied by quantities the buyer estimates. The contract term, the indexation clause and the handling of volume changes are set out in the documents, and they shape the risk of an offer more than any single price.

What matters

For eligibility, buyers look at references for comparable contracts, a large enough vehicle fleet and workforce, the permits required (for hazardous waste, for example) and the disposal route all the way to the plant. Price weighs heavily, but many municipalities also score vehicle drive type and emissions, staff planning, cover arrangements and quality assurance. In cleaning, they check working conditions, minimum wages and the inspection concept. Site visits are often part of the procedure; questions on quantities, route planning and interfaces with the municipal works depot belong in the questions round.
