Die im SBB-Kabelnetz eingesetzten Kabel weisen eindeutig definierte Qualitäts- und Funktionalitätsmerkmale auf. Diese sind spezifiziert und werden im Rahmen eines Qualifizierungsprozesses geprüft. Firmen, welche die SBB beliefern wollen, müssen ihre Produkte dem Qualifizierungsprozess unterziehen und die gestellten Anforderungen erfüllen. Dieser Qualifizierungsprozess stellt sicher, dass die angebotenen Produkte die SBB Anforderungen technisch und qualitativ erfüllen und dass die Antragsteller einheitlich und fair beurteilt werden. Ein Antrag auf Qualifizierung kann jederzeit gestellt werden. Die Publikation des Prüfsystems und die Liste der qualifizierten Firmen erfolgt einmal jährlich. Die einmal erlangte Qualifikation ist für eine Dauer von 5 Jahren gültig.
