Der geplante Ausbau erstreckt sich vom Mehrzweckgebäude Herbligen bis zur Gemeindegrenze Oberdiessbach. Die bestehende, baufällige Ufermauer sowie einzelne Betonsperren werden abgebrochen. Im Projektperimeter wird zur Erhöhung der Abflusskapazität das Längenprofil angepasst und das Gerinne verbreitet. Soweit es die Platzverhältnisse zulassen, wird die Böschung abgeflacht. Das Ufer wird neu mit Natursteinblöcken und die Sohle mit Blocksteinriegeln gesichert, der bestehende Hochwasserschutzdamm teilweise erhöht und verstärkt sowie der bestehende Flurweg verlegt.
