Lot

A defined portion of a larger tender that can be bid on separately.

As a defined portion of a larger tender, a lot is put out to competition and evaluated as a distinct unit. A tender split into several lots allows different areas of work to be awarded separately.

Tender conditions determine whether a bidder may offer on one lot, several lots, or all lots. Eligibility and award criteria may be weighted differently for each lot.

Splitting a tender into lots makes it easier for smaller, specialized suppliers to access large tenders, since they can focus on the part that matches their capacity instead of having to cover the whole contract.
